Electric motors are accompanied by 12.4 kWh lithium-ion batteries that get charged both ways, either by a gasoline engine or an onboard charger.

The car is eligible to be driven in three modes; one is front wheel drive, another rear wheel drive, and the last one all-wheel drive. One thing is unique about this car that it always starts with the E model or zero emission modes. Switching between driving modes will be a matter of fractions of seconds because one touch driving style is equipped. It has got a turbocharged and direct injection gasoline engine that can generate 148 hp along with 184 lb-ft of torque. Two electric motors have been accompanied on sides of rear wheels and front wheels, making 114 hp  and 54 hp respectively. Combined power that is generated is 221 hp which will be supplied to all four wheels equally with propulsive force.

Latest add-on is 4MOTION AWD system and a six-speed dual clutch automatic transmission that has been exclusively designed for hybrid cars like the Tiguan.
